Avoiding Engagement Shoot Awkwardness…

I’ve been thinking about engagement shoots a lot recently. I really really like the idea of them but I’ve seen so many that haven’t been done very well that I think it’s a little off putting. Awkward shots of the soon-to-be-wed couple looking lovingly into each others eyes, shots of real life (yet rather forced) LOL’ing and then there’s the classic ‘him twirling her round’ shot. These are a few of the awkward moments I could envisage happening if Hayd + I decide to have an engagement shoot! That being said I think it’s a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera before your big day and have a little fun at the same time. I been doing some ‘virtual digging’ to put together a little collection of engagement shoot shots that have caught my eye, to devise a set of (for want of a better word) rules, to help avoid awkward shoot movements.

I really love this cropped image! Its sweet, stylish and we would’t have to worry about pulling bizarre faces.

Continuing with the cropped theme… I like this close up shot, it’s really nice and personal for the couple. It’s clearly two people very much in love yet only they know who they are (and people they’ve shown the image to personally of course!)

Streamers and Tassels…

I can’t believe it’s Monday already, where has this last week gone!? I’ve been waiting to do this post for a while as I wanted to gather up a really strong collection of images for this mood board. There are tons of gorgeous images of streamers and tassels all over Pinterest and I’ve kinda fallen in love with them. I particularly love the tassels balloon handles, what a great way to jazz up a balloon! Best of all it’s a fairly inexpensive way to decorate your reception area, the tassels can be easily colour coordinated and hung as a backdrop or around the back of chairs. Very little effort for a stunning outcome. What do you think about tassels and streamers? One for the wedding bank or not worth ‘hanging around’ for! Have a great day, Ayesha x

Don’t forget the most important bit…

Wedding details are fun. Fact. Picking colour schemes, choosing decorations, buying dresses and planning your honeymoon. Oh yes, it is all so much fun.

The little details, the DIY and the creative touches are all worth the effort, don’t get me wrong. But they can also be all-consuming.

Weekends spent searching charity shops for mis-matched china. Evenings are spent searching Etsy for all of those little touches and any time in between is spent making table plans and sorting out family politics.

Yes it is all worth the effort on the day and your photos will capture these details and last a lifetime. But there is something else worth bearing in mind, getting to the big day.

Don’t forget to spend time as a couple. Have date nights away from the wedding planning. Go to the cinema or a restaurant without logging on to your phone to check the latest email update or add something on Pinterest.

Make time for each other and remember why you are planning a wedding. Don’t forget the love. If one of you is getting stressed out with all of the wedding malarkey then do something they will love and that will relax them. a stroll on the beach, a coffee date or a little treat. It will be appreciated.

Just remember the most important thing, is making it to the Big Day as a happy, loved up and relaxed couple…

Trash The Dress: Holi Festival…

Not only is it Friday *hooray* but Laura + I are soooo excited to share these pictures with you. Today’s post is another fantastic installment from Emily of Photographic Blonde. We recently featured a post full of helpful advice when it comes to booking a TTD shoot (AKA Rock The Frock) and we are delighted to show you some more great work from this fantastic photographer!

Katie (the lovely lady in this shoot) didn’t want to just stuff her dress in a box after her wedding and boy are we glad! She contacted Emily and they got together creating a  TTD shoot that involved powdered paint as inspired by the Color Run & Indian Holi Festival. Two weeks after their wedding Katie and her husband, Adam, joined Emily at a wasteland in South London with four tubs of powdered paint. This is what happened …  A + L x

The First Dance…

How long did it take you to pick your 1st dance song? If you have a song as a couple then it is easy peasy. But Joao and I don’t have a song so it is going to be a little bit harder to pick…. We are trying to avoid anything too serious and at the forefront at the moment is (the slightly cheesy) One Direction. Oh yes, you heard me right – I have the musical taste of a teenage girl.

But the perfect first dance can be a tough choice. Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, At Last by Etta James and Your Song (the Ellie Goulding version) are also high on my list of top choices. A favourite 1st dance of some of our closest friends was a choreographed routine to Can’t Fight the Moonlight as the couple’s movie is Coyote Ugly. It was perfect.

And if you don’t like the spotlight and you want your friends to invade the dance floor pretty sharp-ish then let them know as otherwise they won’t want to interrupt your moment. Some couples love the moment to shine and others will love being joined by their nearest and dearest. Personally I can’t keep my Dad off the dance floor…
