Getting in Shape for Your Big Day
It’s called your big day for a reason, the day you’ve dreamt about since you were a girl.
It’s the day you’re guaranteed to be the star of the show, all eyes are going to be fixed firmly on you. And to say people are going to come from far and wide to see you isn’t an exaggeration as some of your guests will travel long distances to attend your wedding. Some may even come from overseas! And there are going to be cameras, lots of cameras, all taking pictures that will be cherished for a lifetime.
For these reasons I don’t suggest you leave getting in shape and looking your very best to chance, you need to make sure it happens by Setting a Goal.
The first reason setting a goal is so important is that it allows you to be specific. Instead of merely saying ‘I want to get in shape’ or ‘I want to lose weight’ you have to state how you want to get in shape, and how much weight you want to lose. This allows you to focus and makes you far more effective; it makes it real. When you specify a number of pounds you want to lose or dress sizes you want to drop, your mind has something to grab hold of and will set about making it happen.
The second reason you should set a goal is that it allows you to create a plan of action. Now that you know how much weight or how many inches you want to lose, you can break the goal down so it’s not overwhelming. Let’s say for example you want to lose 20 pounds. This may seem like a lot and can easily overwhelm you, causing you to dismiss it as impossible, but what if you have 20 weeks to do it? That works out as a pound a week, which all of a sudden seems very possible. Again, this is something your mind can grasp and it will think of all the things you can do lose that pound each week. The things it comes up with will be your plan of action, it’s now your job to make a note of them and do them consistently.
And the last reason is that having a goal creates a sense of urgency. It’s been said that the difference between a goal and a dream is a deadline and you have one – your wedding day. With your wedding day fast approaching, you’re going to have a greater sense of urgency than you had in the past. This sense of urgency will get you to do things when you don’t feel like doing them. It will get you to exercise when you don’t feel like it, it will help you to choose the healthier lunch and it will get help you say ‘no thank you’ to that extra cupcake. Having this sense of urgency will make all the difference to you looking spectacular on your wedding day.
So if don’t want to leave how you look on your special day to chance, set a goal. Furthermore write that goal down and refer to it constantly. Taking a look at your goal will not only serve as a reminder for what you have to do, but will also give you a motivational boost when you need it.
Set a goal for getting into that dress and I have no doubt that you’ll look and feel your very best walking down the aisle.
